Markets Update:

Asia-Pacific markets mostly declined on Tuesday as investors assessed renewed uncertainty surrounding U.S.-Iran peace negotiations, despite record closes on Wall Street driven by technology stocks.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 1.32%, while the broader Topix index lost 1.14%. South Korea’s Kospi dropped 1.92%, and the small-cap Kosdaq tumbled 3.13%. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 also weakened, falling 0.71%.

In contrast, Chinese markets showed modest gains. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index edged up 0.13%, while mainland China’s CSI 300 rose 0.1%.

Investor sentiment was affected by comments from U.S. President Donald Trump, who downplayed concerns that peace talks with Iran could collapse. Speaking to CNBC, Trump said he did not care whether negotiations continued, describing the prolonged discussions as “very boring.” His remarks followed reports that Iranian officials were considering ending talks with Washington and potentially blocking the Strait of Hormuz in response to Israel’s military operations against the Iran-backed Hezbollah group in Lebanon. Trump noted that Iran had not officially informed him of any decision to halt negotiations.

U.S. stock futures pointed lower ahead of Tuesday’s session, with S&P 500 futures down 0.2%, Nasdaq 100 futures losing 0.3%, and Dow futures falling 122 points.

Despite rising oil prices, Wall Street ended higher overnight. Nvidia led gains in the technology sector after unveiling a new PC chip, helping the S&P 500, Nasdaq Composite, and Dow Jones Industrial Average close at record highs.
