Iran halted military strikes against Israel on Monday but warned that attacks could resume if Israeli operations continue in Lebanon. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later stated that the conflict involving Iran and Hezbollah was “not yet over,” keeping geopolitical tensions elevated.
Asian markets delivered mixed performances on Tuesday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained more than 1%, while South Korea’s Kospi surged 4% after Monday’s sharp decline. China’s CSI 300 rose 0.57%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng slipped 0.53%, and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 fell 1.33%.
During regular trading on Monday, chip stocks helped lift major U.S. indexes. The S&P 500 rose 0.3%, while the Nasdaq Composite advanced 0.86%, recovering part of last week’s losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, fell 0.16%.
Despite recent enthusiasm surrounding artificial intelligence and semiconductor stocks, GQG Partners portfolio manager Brian Kersmanc questioned the sustainability of the rally, noting that many chipmakers operate in highly cyclical, commodity-like markets.
